Many exciting things are happening behind the scenes at DeVore Editorial to create magical experiences for our writers, and we’re happy to share this special update: We have a new team member! DeVore Editorial is proud to welcome Angela Houston as Fiction Copyeditor. Get to know Angela and what drives her passion for exceptional editing.
Tell us a little about yourself.
AH: I live on the Illinois side of the Mississippi River outside of Saint Louis with my husband, our three kids, and a fur baby named Waco.
Why did you become an editor?
AH: I have always loved working with words—reading them, writing them, and correcting other people’s. Just kidding! But, really, throughout college and well into adulthood I found myself often requested to proofread papers or marketing materials. I finally decided to combine my talent with something that brought me joy, and for me that meant working with fiction.
What types of projects do you absolutely love to work on?
AH: I adore working with novels. If you have a great story to tell, I’m all about it. There’s a special place in my heart for romance, but I love mysteries, suspense, women’s fiction, fantasy . . . I love it all.
What do you like to do when you aren’t editing?
AH: When I’m not editing, working in some way or another, or spending quality time with my family, I’m filling every spare minute I have with writing. I love yoga, hiking, dancing, and I always love reading, but I’m finally at a place in my life when I miss writing if I’ve been away from it for a while.
If you could share with all the writers of the world one piece of wisdom, what would it be?
AH: Writing requires patience. I know and understand the urge to complete the work and share it with the world, but take time now to revel in your creativity. This is the time to play, to revise, and to experiment. Don’t rush yourself to the point that you’re sacrificing sanity for productivity. And above all, be true to your voice.
